Workshop Themes

Theme 1: Grammar Scope and Sequence Overview

The grammar scope and sequence is a method to organize and classify grammar into the levels and units of the curriculum.

  • Analysis of previous feedback from 18 teachers who taught the curriculum.
  • Examination and adjustments by curriculum editors, with a focus on the grammar section, which required the majority of adjustments, especially regarding presentation, cumulative impact, and grammar level division.
  • Three collaborative meetings with curriculum designers, administration, and assistant teachers to discuss outcomes and necessary improvements.
  • Compilation of grammar sections into a single serial file, from which selected sections were added to the Madinat Al-Arabiya curriculum.

Theme 2: Research and Comparative Analysis

Seven educational series for teaching Arabic to non-native speakers were studied, focusing on grammar presentation and division across levels.

  • Selected grammar sections from the serial file were incorporated into the Madinat Al-Arabiya curriculum.
  • CEFR was used as a reference for grading levels from novice to the fifth level.
  • A new grammar scope and sequence was designed to ensure gradual, logical, and cumulative progression for learners.

Conclusion

The workshop highlighted the systematic design of grammar sequences, ensuring cumulative learning and proper level progression for Arabic learners.
